Voting and Membership

The Indigenous Elected Body consists of seven members elected every three years.

The members elect, by majority vote, one of its members to be the Body’s chair and another to be the deputy chair.

To be eligible to vote or be nominated as a candidate, a person must be an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander, be at least 18 years old, and be on, or entitled to be on, the ACT electoral role.

In June 2008 the first Indigenous Elected Body was elected. Contact the Secretariat on (02) 6205 2551 for further information.
